(Rev 13:1)  And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast [a dangerous animal: (venomous, wild) beast] rise up out of the sea [the sea is a biblical symbol of humanity], having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

1.       (Gen 22:15-18)  And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea” = i.e. the seashore. The sand that the apostle John stood upon in this vision prophetically represents the millions of little “smooth stones” (1 Sam 17:40) of born again Christians that have “come out of her” (Rev 18:4), immediately prior to the beast being “revealed” (2 Thes 2:8) or manifested at the beginning of the Great Tribulation.

1.       (1 Sam 17:40)  And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine [Goliath].

2.       (Rev 18:4,5)  And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her [religious-commercial Babylon (Rev 17-18)], my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities [wrongs done: evil doings (lawlessness)].

3.       (2 Th 2:8-10)  And then shall that Wicked [lawless: without law] [the beast nature in mankind] be revealed [to take the cover off: disclosed /// “off” hide] [man’s true beast nature is now beginning to be revealed in New Orleans], whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth [i.e. Jesus Christ (John 14:6)], that they might be saved.

4.       (Eccl 3:18)  I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them [make apparent to them], and that they might see [and understand] that they themselves are beasts.

These born again Christians have come out of the body of the beast nature (leopard, lion, bear: Rev 13:2). This huge beast is a composite body, personified by Goliath, consisting of billions of unsaved people joined together (bundled: Mat 13:30) in an imitation, counterfeit, distorted parody of the Body of Christ, but all have as their common bond (binding) that they “defy the armies of the living God” (1 Sam 17:26), which is blasphemy. Or, in another metaphor more directly pertinent to our present exegesis, these born again Christians have come out of the covering sea of humanity, which metaphor ultimately represents the covering theology of Humanism (Dict: any system or mode of thought or action in which human interests predominate), within which mankind is being “conformed to this world” (Rom 12:2) as opposed to being “transformed,” changed, or transfigured into the mind of Christ.

1.       (Rom 12:1,2)  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to [the same patterns of thought and behavior of] this world: but be ye transformed ["metamorphose"; changed, transfigured] by the renewing [renovation /// restoration] of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2.       prove = Dict: 1. to establish the truth or genuineness of, as by evidence or argument. 2. Law, to establish the authenticity or validity of (a will) probate. 3. to give demonstration of by action. 4. to put to the test; try or test. 5. Archaic, to have experience of, or experience.

When we focus upon and intently observe these tiny stones of sand, we may note that they are all in the process of being smoothed, and that the smoothing result itself is an effect of the sand (wheat) and the dirt and other foul rubbish (tares) rubbing with force against each other through abrasion, or in human terms affliction, performed by the violent movement of the “raging waves of the sea” (Jude 12,13) as they continually toss them to and fro. The powerful tide (ruled by the moon) named Goliath [exile /// to denude (in a disgraceful sense), disclose, reveal, uncover] first covers and dominates the sand with “the care [distractions] of this world” (Mat 13:22), and then recedes and uncovers them, exposing their sin to God, “morning and evening” (1 Sam 17:16). Goliath was certainly a huge distraction to the armies of the living God, to the point that their effectiveness for God was completely nullified – and that was Goliath’s secondary objective. Goliath’s primary and partially achieved objective was the worship of himself, which would also accomplish the secondary objective.

1.       (Jude 12,13)  These [ungodly men] are spots [a ledge or reef of rock in the sea (i.e. large rocks of resistance to God, unbroken and defiant)] in your feasts of charity [love, i.e. affection or benevolence], when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

2.       (1 Sam 17:16)  And the Philistine [Goliath] drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days [symbol of testing].

However, those grains of sand on the seashore, born again Christians who “understand” (Dan 12:10) are now happily “shut in” Noah’s ark (Gen 7:16) and Lot’s house (Gen 19:10), and reside under, inside, and within the covering “hedge” (Job 1:10) of God. These saints are completely dependent upon God for their formation, protection and restraint. This hedge is the glorious covering of the Sun for our enlightment (picture the sand warming on the seashore), the Word of God, the Bible “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). We are literally “shut into Christ.”

1.       (Dan 12:10)  Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

2.       (Job 1:9,10)  Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge [shut in (for formation, protection, and restraint)] about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

3.       (John 1:14)  And the Word [of God, the Bible] was made flesh [in Jesus Christ], and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

(Heb 11:8-16)  By faith [belief] Abraham, when he was called to go out [“Come out of her, my people” Rev 18:4] into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles [temporary tents, houses of sand, sand castles] with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Through faith [belief] also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable [Gen 22:17]. These all died in faith [belief], not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
