THE GREAT TRIBULATION (or the next 3 ½ years in microcosm)

12-02-12

(Rev 13:1)  And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast [Gk: therion; a dangerous animal: (venomous, wild) beast] rise up out of the sea [symbol of humanity], having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy [Gk: vilification (espec. against God): evil speaking, railing].

1.      (Rev 12:3)  And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon [“that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan” Rev 12:9], having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

2.      Commentary: the “great red dragon” is a serpent with wings, Satan, symbolically presented in imitation (impersonation, counterfeit) of God who is biblically symbolized by an eagle with wings. This “beast” man rising up out of the sea of humanity is inhabited, entered into, possessed of Satan, and thus a composite creature that may then be named the antichrist (the opposite of Christ) for his completely hostile antithetical to God belief (thought) system. Likewise, was the serpent in the Garden of Eden a beast inhabited, entered into, possessed of Satan, and the archetype or very first appearance in the Bible of the antichrist in type and shadow.

a.      (Eccl 3:18)  I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest [make apparent to] them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

3.      (Exo 19:4)  Ye have seen what I [God] did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself [out of Egypt].

4.      (Rev 12:14)  And to the woman [O.T. Israel now matured (pressed together, assembled) into the N.T. Church “as one man” Judg 6:16] were given two wings [the Old Testament and the New Testament; i.e., the open Bible] of a great eagle [a typification of God], that she might fly [above the earth] into the wilderness, into her place [the 9,700 woman-church went “every man unto his place” Judg 7:7], where she is nourished [and taught (corrected) and sanctified, as was Succoth, representing the house of God: Judg 8:16] for a time, and times, and half a time [3 ½ years], [hidden away] from the face of the serpent

5.      Commentary: Please note that there is no mention of the sixtyfold fruitful “woman” in Rev 13 for she will be protected from Satan, symbolically stashed and nourished in the land of Goshen (Gen 45:10,11), during this terrible 3 ½ year period of Great Tribulation on the earth. Nor is there mention in Rev 13 of the raptured “man child” who is more than likely immune to Satan’s wiles.

(Rev 13:2,3)  And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard [a dangerous wild beast noted for its great speed], and his feet were as the feet of a bear [a dangerous wild beast noted for its great crushing power], and his mouth as the mouth of a lion [a dangerous wild beast noted for its great roar (voice, speech)]: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death [a prophecy not yet come to pass]; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. [Dan 7:3-7]

1.      Commentary: By far the greatest power, seat, and authority in the world today resides in the office of the President of the United States. Satan is “the god of this world” 2 Cor 4:4 and therefore may give this presidential power, seat, and authority to whomsoever he cares to, thus enabling the antichrist.

(Rev 13:4,5)  And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth [the lion] speaking great things and blasphemies; and power [the bear] was given unto him to continue forty and two months [the leopard, 3 ½ years –  knowing“that he hath but a short time” Rev 12:12].

(Rev 13:6-8)  And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints [with “the remnant of her seed” Rev 12:17, the thirtyfold fruitful company; Gideon’s 22,000 who were “fearful and afraid” Judg 7:3; marginal believers], and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

1.      (Dan 7:21,22)  I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; Until the Ancient of days came [at the end of the great Tribulation], and judgment was given to the saints [the beginning of the Millennium] of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom [during the 1,000 year Millennium].

2.      (Dan 7:25-27)  And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time [3 ½ years]. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

(Rev 13:9,10)  If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity [Satan “possessed” his captives: Mat 4:24; 8:16,28,33; 9:32, 12:22, etc.; contrarywise, we set them free] shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword [e.g., 120,000 enemy Midianite warriors slew each other: Judg 7:22a, without any harm to the 300 hundredfold saints]. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

1.      (Judg 7:22a)  And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host:

(Rev 13:11-17)  And I beheld another beast [Gk: therion; dimin. a dangerous animal: (venomous, wild) beast] [“the false prophet” Rev 16:13; 19:20; 20:10 – the unsaved men and women of the news media, particularly television] coming up out of the earth [emphasis on hard minerals or metals, i.e., computers, televisions, cameras controlled by unsaved persons]; and he had two horns like a lamb [a religious leader imitating, counterfeiting Jesus Christ], and he spake as a dragon [Satan – “with all deceivableness of unrighteousness” 2 Thes 2:10]. And he exerciseth [Gk: performs] all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast [through the use of lying reports and false video pictures of miracles], whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders [Gk: miracles], so that he maketh fire come down from heaven [as did God’s fire upon Elijah’s sacrifice: 1 Kings 18:38] on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast [i.e., while others are watching, perhaps by saying that the beast empowered him (the false prophet) to do those miracles on the beast’s behalf]; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast [as to the image of a man Nebuchadnezzar made: Dan 3:15], which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast [easily accomplished by modern television], that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark [there will be a famine in the land (Rev 6:5,6) which has already been forecast for year 2013 by government agencies, and the “mark” shall be used as a form of rationing, and of control], or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

(Rev 13:18)  Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast [Gk: therion; a dangerous animal: (venomous, wild) beast]: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six [666] [spirit = 6, soul = 6, body = 6].

1.      (1 Th 5:23)  And the very God of peace sanctify [Gk: make holy, purify] you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2.      Commentary: Seven is the biblical number signifying completion. Rev 13:18 establishes the number of the tripartite (“Let us make man in our image” Gen 1:26) unsaved man as 666. The very next verse of Rev 14:1 presents in contrast the saved 777 man whose number is 6+1, 6+1, 6+1 (the 1 being God) in every instance, equaling 777:

(Rev 14:1)  And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand [perfected 777 men], having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

(Oba 1:21)  And saviours [perfected 777 men] shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau [symbol of the flesh]; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.

Amen
