OUR NATURAL MAN WRESTLES WITH THE ANGEL OF THE LORD

01-13-19 This message may be viewed live streaming video at www.tabernacleofmoses.org commencing today Sunday at 11:00 am, and repeated 24/7 for one week; thereafter, the video, audio, and study notes are archived.

The brightness of our revelations depends upon the correctness of our doctrines, our building blocks. We who are saved, redeemed, imputed for righteousness, born-again, are ascending Jacob’s ladder. (Gen 28:12; John 1:51). God is Thought. Thoughts are Life. God’s angels are His manifested Thoughts. God is Love. God is a Spirit. God is the eternal Spirit from which all things, which are the entire manifested universe, was/is being created. All S(s)pirits are God’s thoughts. You are a part of God’s Spirit (Eccl 12:7); you will become either an eternal Spirit, or an eternal fallen spirit.

(Gen 32:24-32)  And Jacob [“supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler!” Amplif. Bible] [1] was left alone [in his tent]; and there [he] wrestled a man [a man who was an angel: Rev 19:10; 22:9] [2,3] with him until the breaking of the day [i.e., sunrise]. And when he [the angel] saw that he [the angel] prevailed [Heb: overcame] not against him [Jacob], he touched the hollow [pride] of his [Jacob’s] thigh [the strongest muscle of the body, connoting pride]; and the hollow [pride] of Jacob's thigh was out of joint [his pride was greatly weakened, humbled], as he [Jacob] wrestled [prayed] with him [the angel]. And he [the angel] said, Let me go [release me], for the day breaketh. And he [Jacob] said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he [the angel] said unto him, What is thy name? And [“in shock of realization, whispering” Amplif. Bible] he [Jacob] said, Jacob [“supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler!” Amplif.]. And he [the angel] said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed [Heb: overcome] [i.e., overcome your pride]. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he [the angel] said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name [(for there is great power in knowing someone’s name)]? And he [the angel ignored (did not respond to) the name request and] blessed him [Jacob] there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel [Heb: the face of God]: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved [Heb: rescued, saved]. And as he passed over [passover] Penuel [Heb: the face of God] the [morning] sun [a type and shadow of Jesus Christ, the blessings of God] rose upon him [(literally)], and he halted [Heb: limped] [a humbled man] upon his thigh. Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew [Heb: tendon] which shrank [i.e., became less, little], which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he [“the Angel of the Lord” Amplif.] touched the hollow [pride] of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank [i.e., became less, little].

1.    Commentary: Jacob” = is a clear type and shadow of our natural man who in these verses was “imputed for righteousness” by God, i.e., he got saved, and received “a new name” (Isa 62:2; Rev 2:17) indicating a change of character, and became Israel (Heb: prince with God).

a.     (Rom 4:20-25)  He [Abraham] staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he [God] had promised, he [God] was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed [Gk: reasoned, reckoned] [“accredited” Amplif.] to him [Abraham] for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences [Gk: sins], and was raised again for our justification [Gk: acquittal] [i.e., forgiveness].

b.    (James 2:23)  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God [see Judg 7:3 for the 22,000 Israelite warriors who did not believe God], and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

2.    (Hosea 12:3-5)  He [Jacob] took his brother [Esau] by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power [Heb: to prevail: have power (as a prince)] with God: Yea, he [Jacob] had power over the angel [“OVER THE ANGEL”], and prevailed [Heb: overcame]: he wept, and made supplication [Heb: prayer] unto him: he [Jacob] found him [God] in Bethel [Heb: house of god], and there he spake with us [us who?]; Even the [triune] LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial [remembers].

a.     strength = Heb: (in the sense of effort, but successful); ability, power: force, might.

3.    (Rev 22:8,9)  And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel [“THE ANGEL”] which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren [Gk: brothers] the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. [see parallel verse in Rev 19:10]
