(Gen 1:1) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Gen 1:2) And the earth was without form [Heb: a waste; fig. a worthless thing; vain: confusion] [a worthless thing to whom?], and void [Heb: empty; an undistinguishable ruin]; and darkness [Heb: the dark: fig. misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness] was upon the face [(anthropomorphism)] of the deep [Heb: an abyss (as a surging mass of (dark) water)]. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Gen 1:3) And God said, Let there be light [Heb: illumination (including happiness)]: and there was light [brought forth (birthed) from out of the “darkness”]

1.    (John 8:12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light [illumination (including happiness)] [brilliant radiance] of the world [Gk: kosmos; “cosmos” (universe)] [Gen 1:3]: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness [fig. misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness], but shall have the light [illumination, (including happiness),] of life

2.    (1 Peter 2:9) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar [Gk: an acquisition: purchased, possession] people; that ye should shew forth [Gk: publish, celebrate] the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light[Will you respond to that call and come forth, or stay in the womb of darkness?]

(Exo 3:9,10) Now therefore, behold, the cry [Heb: shriek] [screams] of the children of Israel [living in the Egyptian land of Goshen, a type and shadow of the United States (a good place), but living within the confines of the world (a bad place)] is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression [Heb: distress: affliction /// to press(ure): crush, force, hold fast] [troubles, tribulations] wherewith the Egyptians [Heb: in the sense of limiting (others)] [Egypt was then a type and shadow of “darkness” (Gen 1:2) of all unsaved people] oppress them. Come now therefore, and I will send thee [Moses] unto Pharaoh [the ruler of all the known world at that time, in effect, Satan, “the god of this world” (2 Cor 4:4)], that thou mayest bring forth [birth] my people the children of Israel [Heb: he will rule as God] out of Egypt [symbolically birth them, “bring forth” them out of the land of unsaved “darkness.” Altogether, a type and shadow of being “born-again”]

(Exo 4:1-5) And Moses [Heb: drawn out (of the water), rescued] [drawn out of the dark “the deep… the waters” (Gen 1:2)] [1] answered [God] and said, But, behold, they will not believe me [Heb: (be) firm or faithful, trust], nor hearken unto my voice [Heb: to hear intelligently: consider, listen, obey, perceive, understand]: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared [manifested Himself, revealed Himself (in revelations)] unto thee. And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod [A shepherd’s rod. (Whose rod was it?)] [2]. And he [the LORD] said, Cast it on the ground [paralleling the action of God as He did cast the sinning Lucifer (who perverted God’s Thoughts) and his evil rebellious angels on the ground (earth)]. And he [Moses] cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent [it became Lucifer-Satan, i.e., the spirit of sin] [3]; and Moses [recognized it and acknowledged it, and] fled from before it [i.e., Moses literally “saw” the sin/snake that was inside him now externalized and visible outside of himself, and Moses immediately discerned that it was evil] [4]. And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand [Heb: power] [(a command)], and take it [Heb: seize it: fasten (upon it), get possession (of it)] [i.e., YOU have to DO something] by the tail. And he [Moses, who is an impowered instrument (servant) of God obediently] put forth his hand [exercised his power], and caught it [Heb: seized, caught (it)] [5], and it [his sinful Lucifer-Satan influencing thoughts (devils, demons, unclean spirits, fallen angels) became [collectively] a rod [of powerful spirits] in his hand [Heb:(great) power] [6]That they may believe [Heb: (be) firm or faithful, trust] that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared [manifested Himself, revealed Himself (in revelations)] unto thee. [7]

1.    (Matt 3:16) And Jesus, when he was baptized [Gk: to make whelmed (fully wet): washed] [“with the washing of water by the word” (Gk: rhema; revelations) Eph 5:26], went up straightway out of the water [Gen 1:3]: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

2.    rod = Heb: a branch [of wood, of a tree (Psa 1:1-3)] (as extending); fig. a tribe; also a rod, whether for chastising (fig. correction), ruling (a sceptre), throwing (a lance), or walking (a staff; fig. a support of life).

3.    serpent = Heb: a snake (from its hiss) /// properly to hiss, that is, whisper a (magic) spell: divine, enchanter, (use) enchantment [syn: charm, attraction, delight, fascination, allure, magic] [i.e., hypnotism, mesmerism, suggestion, as employed in propaganda]

4.    (James 1:21,22) Wherefore lay apart [separate from yourself as Moses did from himself] all filthiness [Gk: (moral) dirtiness] and superfluity [Gk: superabundance] of naughtiness [Gk: badness, depravity: evil, malice, wickedness] [i.e., by discerning the difference between good and evil (unlike Adam and Eve)], and receive with meekness [Gk: mildness, humility] the engrafted [Gk: implanted] word [Gk: logos; something said (including the thought)] [i.e., the (logos) seed], which is able to save [Gk: heal, preserve, make whole] your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving [Gk: deluding: to beguile] your own selves

5.    Commentary: “and caught it” = Moses seized the sinful Lucifer-Satan thoughts (devils, demons, unclean spirits, fallen angels) (ref. “Who maketh his angels spirits” Psa 104:4; Heb 1:7) bringing them collectively together into a “strong hold” under his command (they are the rod of his power), into captivity by exercising his own self-control (i.e., “temperance” Gal 5:23) and they (the devils) became fully obedient to Christ (Gk: the anointing) of Moses.

a.     (2 Cor 10:4-6) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal [Gk: fleshly], but mighty through God to the pulling down [Gk: demolition] of strong holds [Gk: fortifications; castles (fig. arguments)];) Casting down imaginations [Gk: thoughts], and every high thing that exalteth itself [Gk: raises up] against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought [i.e., every fallen angel] to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled [i.e., when Moses obeyed, he achieved]

6.    Commentary: “a rod in his hand” = accomplishing ten miracles within Pharaoh’s (a type and shadow of Lucifer-Satan) Egypt (a type and shadow of the then known world), and parting the waters, “the way” to heaven by symbolically opening the Bible of the Red (Heb: reed, espec. the papyrus) sea and walking across (treading oneself mentally, i.e., spiritually) into the Promised Land (a type and shadow of salvation).

7.    (Rev 12:5) And she [the church] brought forth a man [Gk: male] child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron [which is the cumulatively “transformed” (Rom 12:2) wooden rod of Moses from “forgiveness” (wood) into “judgment” (iron)]: and her child was caught up [Gk: seized: plucked (up), taken by force] [i.e., raptured: (Gen 19:16; Judg 7:8; 1 Thes 4:17)] unto God, and to his throne.
