(Exo 13:17,18) And it came to pass, when Pharaoh [1] had let the people go [a type and shadow of the Israelite slaves being “born again” (John 3:3); emerging from the womb of Egypt], that God [“the invisible God” (Col 1:15 & 1 Tim 17)] led [Heb: guided] them not through the way [Heb: a road (as trodden); fig. a course of life or mode of action] of the land of the Philistines [Heb: rolling, migratory /// roll (wallow) self] [like swine, like pigs, versus like “husbandmen” (John 15:1), i.e., like stable everlasting farmers, married to the land], although that was near [a (geographically) short, quick route to the Promised Land, but heavy laden with certain hostile and dangerous conflict]; for God said, Lest peradventure [unless] the people repent [should cease believing “faith” and start believing “fear”] when they see war [Heb: fighting; battle, (warfare)], and they return to Egypt [2]But God [“the invisible God”] led the people about [Heb: round about], through the way [Heb: a road (as trodden); fig. a course of life or mode of action] of the wilderness of the Red [Egyptian: reed, especially the papyrus] sea [symbolically, through the way of the written Word of God]: and the children of Israel went up harnessed [Heb: staunch, able bodied soldiers] out of the land of Egypt [i.e., altogether a type and shadow of being “born again” (John 3:3)]

1.    Commentary: “Pharaoh” = the unsaved King of Egypt who was a type and shadow of Satan (“the god of this world” 2 Cor 4:4) ruling the known world at that time; Egypt symbolized the land of the unsaved. Now the United States of America is/was the ruling nation of the known world.

2.    (Mark 4:16,17) And these [persons] are they likewise [i.e., likewise to suffer the same fate as those just previous persons “sown by the way side” v.15] which are sown on stony [i,e., hard hearted] ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness [“which for a while believe” (Luke 8:13)]; and have no root [Jesus Christ said “I am the root” (Rev 22:16)] in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake [i.e., for their belief system], immediately they are offended [“fall away” Gk: remove, revolt, desert: withdraw self]

a.     Commentary: “and they return to Egypt” = they return to the land of the unsaved, paralleling the actions of 22,000 of the 32,000 soldiers that assembled into Gideon’s army who did not believe God for the victory when God had said to the 32,000 “Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return” (Judg 7:3), and 22,000 returned unsaved to their homes, i.e., they assembled into church, disbelieved God, and left church.

(Exo 13:19-22) And Moses [Heb: drawn out (of the water), rescued] [Gen 1:2; Eph 5:26, i.e., rescued from the “darkness” (Gen 1:2 in Hebrew) of the dark water of the corrupted polluted  defiled Word of God, i.e., “born again” John 3:3; a new beginning] [1] took the bones of Joseph [Heb: let him add (adding)] with him: for he [Joesph] had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you [Gen 50:25]; and ye shall carry up [Heb: ascend (with)] my bones [symbolically, with the Law] away hence with you [to ascend with you] [2]. And they took their journey from Succoth [Heb: tents], and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar [Heb: a column (as standing)] [on the earth reaching to Heaven, like Jacob’s ladder (Gen 28:12)] of a cloud [composed of condensed water, i.e., condensed words of God (Eph 5:26), raindrops, which rain down upon us like scattered seeds (“The seed is the word of God” Luke 8:11)], to lead [Heb: guide] them [us on] the way [Heb: a road (as trodden); fig. a course of life or mode of action] [to Heaven]; and by night in a pillar [Heb: a column (as standing)] [on the earth reaching to Heaven] of fire [Heb: burning: flaming], to give them light [Heb: (make) luminous (illuminate): (make) glorious, set on fire, shine]; to go by day and night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before [from in front of] the people [3]

1.    (Gen 1:1) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Gen 1:2) And the earth was without form [Heb: a waste, desolation; fig. a worthless thing: confusion, vanity, wilderness], and void [Heb: empty; an undistinguishable ruin]; and darkness [Heb: the dark; fig. misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness] was upon the face [(anthropomorphism)] [a] of the deep [Heb: an abyss (as a surging mass of water)]. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters(Gen 1:3) And God said, Let there be light [Heb: illumination (in every sense including happiness)]: and there was light [i.e., the archetype of Jesus Christ coming (being birthed) out of darkness]

a.     anthropomorphism: Dict. = the attributing of human shape or characteristics to a god, animal, or inanimate thing.

2.    Commentary: “Joseph” = an apparently “perfect” type and shadow of Jesus Christ wherein “A bone (i.e., a Law) of him (Jesus Christ) shall not be broken” John 19:36b. “A bone of him…” is symbolized in the physical structure (the bones, the skeleton) of the body of Jesus Christ depicted as the tabernacle of Moses (“the tabernacle of God” Rev 21:3) which Law was later prophetically dressed with flesh and breath in “the valley which was full of bones” (Ezek 37:1-14).

3.    Commentary: “fire” = producing illumination (physical and mental), ultimately intense light (REVELATIONS) in the “darkness” (Gen 1:2 in Hebrew) of this world, like a laser beam (acronym = Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission Radiation), first exposing and then burning (consuming) all of Satan’s false thoughts (God is True Thought) as pieces of wood (earthly) for the fire (Godly).

a.     (Heb: 12:29) For our God is a consuming fire.

b.    (John 8:12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light [Gk: (to shine or make manifest, especially by rays); luminousness: fire] of the world [Gk: kosmos; “cosmos” (universe)]: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness [Heb: fig. misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness (Gen 1:2)], but shall have the light of [eternal] life.

                                                                         i.      Commentary: eternal life with eternal Love, “God is love” (1 John 4:8,16), i.e., true love is “a consuming fire” (Deut 4:24, 9:3; Heb 12:29), true love “is quick and powerful” (Heb: 4:12), true love is alive and changes things.
