The depth of our revelations depends upon the correctness of our doctrine.

Commentary: The Babylon aspect of Rev 17 encompasses all false religions of the world, including apostate Christianity, summarized in the city of Sodom (“they wearied themselves to find the door” Gen19:11) which ultimately symbolizes false doctrines; whereas the Babylon of Rev 18 encompasses the world commercial-political aspect summarized in the city of Gommorah which ultimately symbolizes false works.

  1. Babylon = Heb: confusion. [“God is not the author of confusion” 1 Cor 14:33] [but of order]

  2. Sodom = Heb: to scorch; burnt (volcanic or bituminous) district; a place near the Dead Sea.

    1. (1 Tim 4:1,2) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly [Gk: distinctly], that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared [Gk: branded (“cauterized”), rendered unsensitive] with a hot iron;

  3. Gomorrah = Heb: a (ruined) heap /// to heap; fig. to chastise (as if piling blows); specifically to gather grain: bind sheaves [“slaves” Rev 18:13], make merchandise of [“and souls of men” Rev 18:13].

    1. (Gen 37:28) Then there passed by Midianites [Heb: brawling, discord, strife] merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph [a type and shadow of Jesus Christ] out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

  4. (Gen 19:24) Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

(Zech 14:12) And this shall be the plague [Heb: pestilence: slaughter /// slay, smite down, strike] wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away [Heb: melt; fig. flow, vanish: dissolve] while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away [Heb: melt; fig. flow, vanish: dissolve] in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away [Heb: melt; fig. flow, vanish: dissolve] in their mouth. (Zech 14:15) And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.

(1 Kings 18:30-35)  And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel [Heb: he will rule as God] shall be thy name: And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed [God the Father & God the Holy Spirit]. And he put the wood in order [saved saints], and cut the bullock in pieces [the offering of the priest for himself (Lev 4:3; Ezek 43:19), a type and shadow of Jesus Christ], and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water [symbolizing the Holy Spirit covering from “the four winds” (Mat 24:31) of heaven], and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood [symbolizing God the Father’s sanction]. Do it the second time. And they did it the second time [symbolizing God the Son’s sanction]. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time [symbolizing God the Holy Spirit’s sanction]. And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

(1 Kings 18:38,39) Then the fire of the LORD [nuclear power] fell, and consumed [Heb: to eat, devour /// self] the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench [“and the spirit shall return unto god who gave it” Eccl 12:7]. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

Commentary: Elijah’s summation altar of the ancient world order encompassed both doctrines and works and was located upon mount Carmel [Heb: fruitful (plentiful) field, place] on the Mediterranean Sea. Whereas the two faces of the Babylon of the new world order may be identified as San Francisco [false doctrines: Rev 17: Sodom] and New York City [false works: Rev 18: Gomorrah], the former located on the Pacific Ocean and the latter located on the Atlantic Ocean, and both encompassing as boundaries, the United States of America.

(Rev 18:1-3) And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power [nuclear power]; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen [Sodom (Rev 17)], is fallen [Gomorrah (Rev 18)], and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication [Gk: idolatry], and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

(Rev 18:4-8) And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you [an eye for an eye], and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup [“full of abominations and filthiness” Rev 17:4] which she hath filled fill to her double. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen [“the abomination of desolation” Mat 24:15], and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

  1. (Isa 10:17) And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers [unsaved peoples] in one day;

(Rev 18:9,10) And the kings of the earth [political Babylon], who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour [by nuclear missiles, the fire of God] is thy judgment come.

(Rev 18:11-13) And the merchants of the earth [commercial Babylon] shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men [ref. the previous Hebrew definition of “Gomorrah”].

(Rev 18:14-19) And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen [white], and purple, and scarlet [no blue], and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! For in one hour [by nuclear missiles, the fire of God] so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, And cried when they saw [from ships] the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city [New York City], wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour [by nuclear missiles, the fire of God] is she made desolate [Gk: laid waste].

  1. (Psa 91:5-8) Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow [nuclear missile] that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

(Rev 18:20-24) Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon [Heb: confusion] be thrown down [God’s purpose accomplished from Genesis 1:1-5], and shall be found no more at all. And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries [Gk: medications (“pharmacy”), magic: witchcraft] were all nations deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
